Sundays 5pm-9pm In The Tavern at Summit House. Special guest accompanist, Tom Tompkins, to appear on Howard's next album Sep 24, 2009 at 10:18 am
Creative Cow Records is pleased to announce that noted violist, Tom Tompkins, will be a guest artist performing on Howard's next album due in 2010. Tom Tompkins is the principal violist in the Boise Philharmonic, as well as being a part of Kevin Kirk & Onomatopoeia (who are one of the top-ranked jazz fusion ensembles performing today). Others may also remember Tom Tompkins as a part of the early 70s neo-classical "chamber rock" group, Providence, who were the only American band ever signed to The Moody Blues' Threshold record label. Providence would record one album, "Ever Sense the Dawn," for Threshold (which was produced by famed Moodys producer Tony Clarke). Later, Tom would join The Moody's Justin Hayward and John Lodge in their band Blue Jays, which released a Gold-certified album, and traveled the world in support of their Top 20 album that featured songs like "I Dreamed Last Night," "Blue Guitar" and "When You Wake Up." Tom Tompkins will be appearing in a piano and viola duet on Howard's new album. "We couldn't be happier to see this come together," says Creative Cow Records president, Ron Lindeboom. "I have known Howard since the late 1970s and became aware of Tom Tompkins' playing even before that. I once had the pleasure of meeting the guys from Providence after one of their concerts in 1973 in Portland, Oregon. They were a great bunch of people and their music was simply amazing. I never forgot them and so when I listened to one of Howard's advance previews from his upcoming 2010 album, I thought that the perfect accompanist for a duet with Howard, would be Tom Tompkins. I truly believe the two will be quite magical together." Recording sessions underway for upcoming 2010 album Sep 23, 2009 at 11:48 am Sessions are now underway that will bring listeners Howard Cowles' next album, due in 2010. The long awaited new album (title TBA later), has what early listeners cite as some of Howard's very best composing ever. "These melodies are stunning," says Creative Cow Records president, Ron Lindeboom. "Some of the melodies and phrasings that Howard uses on these songs take his playing to a whole new and more expressive, improvisational level. As always, the melodies are paramount, but the degree of latitude that Howard allows himself in the phrasing and nuance within and in support of these melodies takes these songs in a direction that I think his fans will be very excited to hear."
